Transplant shock in seedlings can be avoided if the soil temperature is warm enough to plant. Most sees require warm soil to a depth of 3" to encourage germination. Sees and seedlings planted in soil that is too cold exhibit symptoms similar to those planted in soil with poor nutrient values. Planting by the calendar disregards weather variations. Planting based on soil temperature helps assure plants a good start.
