Priam Begging Achilles Bas-Relief – After Bertel Thorvaldsen

A dramatic neoclassical relief capturing the poignant moment from Greek mythology: King Priam of Troy kneels before the mighty Achilles, pleading for the return of Hector’s body. This evocative scene comes to life in finely sculpted detail, from Priam’s outstretched hand to Achilles’ solemn posture.

The design is based on Bertel Thorvaldsen’s original relief Priam Pleads with Achilles for Hector’s Body, created in 1815. The plaster model from that year is on display in the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark.
